The Northern Lights, or the Aurora Borealis, are a natural phenomenon visible in the Northern Hemisphere. A unique display of light caused by a particle collision in the magnetic field of the polar caps. They are visible in Iceland from September through April but visibility is subject to Northern Lights activity and cloud coverage.

Please note, we cannot guarantee sightings even if the northern lights tour is operated. We can only hope for the best that you get to experience this natural wonder!

To attempt to witness the Northern Lights you will need four things to be in order. You need to be relatively close to the North Pole, you will need a dark night and you will need relatively clear skies, however clouds don’t necessarily mean no sightings. Finally you will need some sort of solar activity and solar winds as the Lights are caused by a collision of particles from the sun with gaseous particles from the earth.

It is recommended to stay in Iceland at least 7-nights to get the best chance at witnessing the Northern Lights. Some hotels will even make courtesy calls to your room if you would like to be notified when the lights are out!

Is it safe to drink the local water?

It is extremely safe to drink the fresh local water in Iceland (it’s actually some of the cleanest in the world!). In fact, we recommend you bring an empty water bottle with you as you travel, to help avoid the cost of expensive bottled water.

When will I get my travel documents?

Your travel documents will be issued via EMAIL 7 to 10 days prior to departure. Documents will include your assigned hotel accommodations, transfer details and times, vendor contact information, emergency numbers and more. All you need to do is print out all of these documents and take them with you. You may forward them to friends & family to share your trip details and contact information.

Escorted Tours: Travel documents for escorted tours are mailed and will be  delivered via USPS (sent from our office in Massachusetts) and should arrive approximately 7-10 days prior to departure.

What is the difference between a Hopper Tour and an Escorted Tour?

We’ve compiled a list below to help chart out the differences between these types of tours:

When should I arrive at the airport?

Play it safe and plan to arrive 2.5 to 3 hours prior to your scheduled departure time to allow for any unexpected delays in traffic, check-in, security, or long lines at the newsstand!
